While I use the NCSCOS Healthful Living standards, I make sure to include many other subjects and areas. We practice math, literacy, science, as well as sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and accountability.
Units covered every year include: fitness, golf, bike safety (3rd-5th grade), cooperative skills, gymnastics, movement patterns (K-2 grade), catching and throwing, kicking, jump roping, bowling. Units rotated every other year: soccer, flag football (3rd-5th grade), hockey, dance, cricket, lawn games, tennis, volleyball, disc golf.
My main goal is to instill a love for activity and exercise at the elementary age. While mechanics of specific skills are important, it is so much more important that they like various activities and don't feel the need to be in expert in one sport.
The students also have opportunities to earn PE "free days," in which they vote, as a class, on 3-4 activities to do that day. They earn these days once a quarter and earn them maintaining good behavior throughout the quarter! Giving the students an opportunity to voice their opinion and choose the activity for the day, gives them ownership of their activity time. The goal is to increase their intrinsic motivation for activity by giving them the choice of activity/exercise.
Stop in and see us anytime! :)
Items we always need: band-aids, kleenex, hand sanitizer, prizes (notebook paper, water bottles, journals, colored pencils, pencils-- really anything that isn't food related)

One student is chosen at the end of each class as the PE Superstar of the Day! Last year's wall around 3/4 of the way through the year.
